Archbishop Mullally visits centres serving people in need in Rome

Archbishop Sarah Mullally concluded her pilgrimage to Rome last week with a series of visits to the Joel Nafuma Refugee Center and projects run by the Sant’ Egidio Community in the city’s Trastevere district.
The Joel Nafuma Center supports refugees and asylum seekers and is operated by St Paul’s Within the Walls – the Episcopal Church congregation in Rome – from its crypt on Via Napoli. It provides language courses, practical assistance, counselling, art therapy and training to assist its guests in finding employment in Italy.
The Community of Sant’Egidio began in 1968 in Rome and is now a network of communities in more than 70 countries, gathering men and women of all ages and conditions, who are united through listening to the Gospel and their voluntary and free commitment for the poor and for peace in our world.
Her final meeting in Rome, on Tuesday afternoon, was with Sr Roxanne Schares, Executive Secretary of the International Union of Superiors General (UISG), which included a discussion about how the UISG and Mothers' Union could work together in areas of shared interests.
